May Contain Nuts (2009)

This is a short review for a light and inconsequential film. I chose to watch this as the cast has some of the brighter names of British acting and the writers included John O’Farrell who is a seriously funny writer. However, despite these foundations this is a vapid and minor; a film based around one single, solitary joke.

It is also horrendously middle-class and twee. It is middle class in that it looks down patronisingly on the working class (feeling thankfully superior to them) and also looks down on the upper class deriding their snobbery (feeling morally superior to them). The Hampstead Islington crowd who manufactured this drivel have no knowledge of the real lives of others and can only see them as the stereotypes that they believe they are. This is irritating and annoying and insults the viewer. It would have been painless, harmless drivel useful for whiling away dead time; were it not for this. Best avoided all round.
